Harry Potter vs. Star Wars Infographic by Mary Brown

Mary Brown created an eye catching and entertaining infographic in Kelley Coppinger's senior level class.  She highlights the extreme similaries of two very popular sci-fi series, Harry Potter and Star Wars, by comparing the character roles of each storyline.

The Lavender House by Hilary Boyd - #QuercusSummer

This is my third book but sadly the last book of the Quercus Summer. I have to say that I will miss sharing my book adventures with you, it had been an original and funny summer!
This time I took "The Lavender House" to the sunny Catalonia! I am not sure it really enjoyed the hot weather we had there, but at least I took him to the sunny pool...

To take a swim...

And of course to enjoy my favourite summer drink, the Orxata!

The Lavender House by Hilary Boyd
Genre: Fiction, Drama
Source: Quercus
Rating: 4/5

This book is about family, love and friendship. Yes, it's a drama book, but this doesn't mean it's not worth the read!
Nancy loved her family: her mother, her daughter, her grandchildren... but they don't like very much her new lover... Would Nancy fight for her feelings or will be subdued by her family?

"It was early still, so she lay in bed, luxuriating in thought of the previous night, picking over everything Jim had said, her own replies, their shared laughter and, most of all, the physical thrill of his touch. Everything, she thought, seems somehow exceptional this morning -  the duvet is particularly cosy, the pillow particularly soft. Even the rain on the window looks prettier, the light struggling to break through the May clouds more beautiful.
Then a thought struck her: I am in love."

I was gladly surprised with this book, it's not my type of reading, but from the first page it made me want to know more about Nancy and her life.
I am always surprised with the people who don't want to think that their parents have a love/sexual life. They made us, so they have one! That made me thing that I had never seen my mum with any man, I will never know if it was because she didn't want anyone in our lives or because she didn't need someone to take care of her. For me it's not important if our parents want someone in their life, because if they're happy, for me is enough.
This book will make you think about family, and the good and bad things that imply it. I can assure you that you will feel a lot of empathy for all the characters, but they have their faults, who doesn't?
Hillary brilliantly created 60 years old main character that will make you understand that all the mother and fathers have secrets, have feelings and want to be happy!
Let Nancy share with you her life and secrets, you will love them!

Sting by Sandra Brown

Rating: 4/5

Jodie Bennet is attracted at first sight to the dark Shaw Kinnard, but when Shaw kidnap her asking for the money her brother had stolen, she just wants to stay alive. But there are more people searching for the missing money, Jodie will have to trust someone... Will Shaw help her or he is just looking for the money?

"He motioned behind him. "As long as you behave yourself, you can have that half of the building and I promise to keep my distance and my back turned."
"Why should I trust you?"
"You shouldn't""

This is a quick read thriller, you will read it in just one day, it's easy to like the characters and it's full of action, and we can't forget the twists!
I liked how Sandra plays with the "mea culpa" feeling. Yes, sometimes you make something wrong and you have to be conscious of it and how to amend your actions. But it's not fair to pay for something that happened a long time ago, and worst if it was an accident, don't you think?
This is the big problem Jodie has, her guilty feelings would get her killed if she doesn't start to fight!
I have to say I enjoyed how Jodie and Shaw felt attracted to each other, but they know that's not all, they will have to work on the relationship and start knowing each other.
This is another great book of Sandra Brown, love action and mystery!

Tomato & Fennel Bread Mix by Odlums

In the weekend I try to "cook" a little more than the weekdays, so today I tried the Bake Your Own Tomato and Fennel bread mix from Odlums. It was easy to follow the instructions and if you add olives in the mix the bread is amazing!

You just have to...
First add olives to the mix...

Second add an oil spoon. I use the one with the olives, this way it will be more tasty!

Then add the 350ml of water...

Mix it all together...

Have the patience to wait the 40 minutes that has to stay in the oven...

And enjoy an amazing olives bread!

First Aid Blanket

I have discovered this amazing blanket, really useful in emergency cases! It teaches step by step what to do if you need to make a First Aid!
It had won the Red Dot Design!
First Aid Blanket indicates the correct way to attempt revival of a drowning victim with printed pictorial instructions. The diagrams correspond with the position of the various parts of the body when the victim is laid down on the blanket. It makes the delivery of first aid by non-trained rescuers a possibility.

Wildflower Bay by Rachel Lucas

Genre: Fiction, Romance
Rating: 4/5

Isla has lost her lifetime job and is not quite sure what to do next. She decides to help her aunt in a remote island...
Would Isla find the answers she needs with the help of the attractive Finn?

"Isla stopped at a traffic light, fingernails tapping impatiently on the steering wheel, feeling the smug purr of the engine. Flipping down her sun visor as she waited, she checked her make-up. Her face was an immaculate mask of primer and foundation, with a slash of red lipstick that matched her gorgeous new convertible perfectly."

This is a fresh and funny book to read! Indulge yourself in this small village with some amazing stylists that will create a new you! ;)
What I liked most about this book was that all the characters have a past that made them the way they are, some real past that would change anyone. But their past didn't make them stop believing in life, happiness or love! They all are unforgivable, with hints of humour, but real. Maybe we all have to learn a little from the characters Rachel Lucas has created, don't you think?
Enjoy this book with a chocolate bar, it will melt in your mouth the same way as the characters of this book will melt in your heart!
Ready for a big change in your life?

A Boy Made Of Blocks by Keith Stuart

Today I want to share a curious book I have discovered but not yet read.
It's A Boy Made Of Blocks by Keith Stuart, a unique, funny and moving debut that will make you laugh, cry and smile.
Inspired by the author's experiences with his own son, A Boy Made of Blocks is an astonishingly authentic story of love, family and autism.

Meet thirtysomething dad, Alex
He loves his wife Jody, but has forgotten how to show it. He loves his son Sam, but doesn't understand him. Something has to change. And he needs to start with himself.
Meet eight-year-old Sam
Beautiful, surprising, autistic. To him the world is a puzzle he can't solve on his own.
But when Sam starts to play Minecraft, it opens up a place where Alex and Sam begin to rediscover both themselves and each other . . .
Can one fragmented family put themselves back together, one piece at a time?

I still haven't got the opportunity to read it, but it will be available to buy from the 1 of September!
Ready for an amazing book?
